Joshua Stickney (he/him)
Director of Communications; Leadership Team
Joshua Stickney is the Director of Communications at the Ella Baker Center Action Fund (EBCAF). In his role, he leads EBCAF’s communications strategy and, alongside a team of experienced and creative communicators, supports the organization’s digital, electoral, organizing and policy programs. Key to their work is empowering the strategists and storytellers amongst incarcerated, formerly incarcerated people and their loved ones. An experienced advocacy and communications professional, Joshua previously served as Deputy Communications Director at a California LGBTQ+ advocacy organization where he supported the passage of numerous pieces of civil rights legislation, including SB 357 (Wiener/Kalra 2021), SB 132 (Wiener, 2020), SB 159 (Wiener/Gloria, 2019) and others. Prior to that, Joshua was a junior partner at a progressive political consulting agency in his home state of Oklahoma where he worked to elect people of color, queer folks, women, and tribal members. Joshua attended the University of Oklahoma, where he received a BA in political science and studied music education.
In his spare time, Joshua can be found discussing the political climate, supporting the local drag scene, or hiking an area trail.
